Big improvement in our eating and we love having the sample recipes.

It's so important to my health to have fresh produce, and I liked the recipes you handed out.

We provide low-cost shares to area senior citizens

Are you, or do you know, a low-income senior citizen who wants affordable access to our farm-fresh food? In collaboration with the Northampton Senior Center and with support from the Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare Foundation, Grow Food Northampton makes eating healthy and local food easier than ever with our Red Bag Senior Share (formerly known as Senior FarmShare)!

During the summer, participants who sign up in advance receive a one-person, weekly share of freshly harvested vegetables with a value of over $12 per week for just $1 per week (or less). The vegetables are grown at Crimson & Clover Farm in Florence. In 2017, shares are available for pickup on Wednesday, 3-4pm, at the Northampton Senior Center starting July 5th.

We offer two different shares, one that runs for 10 weeks and another that runs for 15 week:

  • The 10-week share costs $10 in cash at the time of registration and is open to all seniors who: receive fuel assistance, SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid, SSI, AFDC, welfare, or veterans aid; participate in the Food Bank’s Brown Bag Program; live alone and have income below $22,980; or have combined income with a spouse/partner that is below $31,020.
  • The 15-week share is only open to seniors who participate in SNAP. They can enroll in a plan that deducts $16/month directly from their SNAP account July through October, and the full $16 will be immediately reimbursed to their SNAP account and available to spend thanks to the new statewide Healthy Incentives Program (HIP).
