This week’s Grow Food Kids activity:

Pinecone Bird Feeder:

Materials:

Pine cones – you can find lots on the ground. Make sure they’re dry first

Smooth peanut butter, shortening, or suet.

Bird seed, seeds, cheerios, cereal crumbs, or break up stale bread (or crusts, if your kids don’t like ‘em.)

Ribbon or string

Instructions:

  1. Tie the ribbon or string firmly to the pine cone. (Do this first because it’s going to get sticky!)
  2. Mix the peanut butter and bird seed together.
  3. Push the mixture into the cone with your fingers. You can roll the pine cone in the leftovers, to add an extra coating. Yummy!
  4. Hang the feeders from a tree, porch, or fence where you will be able to watch birds eating your treat. Send us pics of you & your feeder and tell us what you see!

Comedero Para Pájaros con un Pinecone:

Materiales:

* Conos de pino: puedes encontrar lotes en el suelo. Asegúrate de que estén secos primero.

* Suave mantequilla de maní, manteca o sebo.

* Semillas de pájaros, semillas, cheerios, migas de cereal o pan rallado (o costras, si a sus hijos no les gustan).

* Cinta o cuerda

Instrucciones:
