The Northampton Community Farm

Grow Food Northampton has officially become the proud stewards of 120+ acres of heritage farmland along the Mill River in Florence. The site will be home to a variety of farming enterprises that strive to serve strengthen our local agricultural economy and collective food security. We are in the process of developing a comprehensive plan for the land, which to date includes a CSA farm and plans for a community garden.

Crimson & Clover Farm

Crimson & Clover Farm  Located on the northernmost 39 acres of the Northampton Community Farm, Crimson & Clover CSA has a 99-year lease with GFN and is currently serving 200 CSA shareholders.  Read More

Affordable Farm Shares

As part of our commitment to make nutritious, locally-produced food accessible to all segments of our community, we are proud to be partnering with Crimson & Clover Farm and Town Farm to deliver CISA’s discounted CSA share program for eligible seniors.  Read More

Florence Organic Community Gardens

To be located within the 17-acre field south of Meadow Street, Northampton’s newest community garden plots will comprise roughly 7 acres and seek to encourage and support gardeners using organic methods. Planning for this project will be done by the volunteer efforts of the Community Garden Committee and with guidance from Regenerative Design Group.  Read More

Complementary Farming Operations

Ideally, the central 50 acres of the Community Farm will host a second long-term farming operation that provides products, such as grains, that compliment Crimson & Clover’s vegetable CSA.  Read More

Potential Farm Incubation Sites

Many successful community farm projects offer short-term spaces for aspiring farmers to refine their farming practices and business plan as they seek farmland of their own. This type of program could be located on the 13 acre field to the east of the Mill River.  Read More

 

Community Collaborations

Our success owes much to the precedents set before we even came to exist. This is why we actively seek collaborations with groups in our city and region, combining our resources to expand our collective impact. Here is a sampling of projects we have joined to date in our short first year:

Bleiman Field

We are managing a 5 acre agricultural field owned by the City of Northampton in the Meadows behind the South St. neighborhood. Read More

Food Stamps x2

This year, Grow Food Northampton has teamed up with the wonderful folks at Tuesday Market to raise the $12,000 needed to continue the FoodStampsX2 program for the entire season. Thank you to our generous donors! The response has been overwhelming and we have already surpassed our goal for this season. Please consider a gift to the City of Northampton that will enable double food stamps value at other city farmers markets.  Read More

Senior Shares

Northampton Food Security Initiative

Members of Grow Food Northampton, along with Lisa DiPiano of Montview Neighborhood Farm and a gathering of local citizens, helped to direct the Conway School of Landscape Design’s food security plan, Feed Northampton: First Steps Toward a Local Food System.  Read More

Food Curriculum Survey in Northampton public schools

GFN supported Fresh Wednesdays, an initiative of the Healthy Foods in Northampton Schools Coalition, by developing a survey to identify the food, nutrition, and local agriculture topics currently discussed in classrooms.Read More

Forever Farmland

The Northampton Community Farm marks the first Forever Farmland posting west of the Connecticut River. Forever Farmland is an initiative of the Kestrel Land Trust.Read More
