“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.” –Greek Proverb
Grow Food Northampton believes we have a shared responsibility to strengthen food security by vigorously advancing sustainable agriculture in our area. Food security–the assured availability of sufficient, nutritious food– is enhanced both in the short term by providing affordable, fresh food for our community, and in the long term by preserving local land for agriculture. These goals require persistent effort and on-going resources. We understand that through our work today we are leaving a legacy for our community, built on the foundations of every contribution we receive.
With the larger picture constantly in view, we realize that the purchase of the Northampton Community Farm is only the beginning for GFN as we grow and work towards a more sustainable and just world.
What is Planned Giving?
Planned giving is any charitable gift that requires some planning before it is made. Planned gifts are different than regular donations in part because of the large impact they can have in creating stability for a nonprofit, but more than that because the time and thought that goes into these contributions often reflects the dedication of donors to our mission of promoting food security through sustainable agriculture.
We advise that you consult with your financial, legal and tax advisors before making any planned gift.
What Can I Give?
Planned gifts can come in a variety of forms, everything from cash to real estate, and a number of different assets in between. When considering giving a planned gift to Grow Food Northampton there are a number of options. GFN can be written into wills, be the beneficiary of a Life Insurance Policy, as well as be the recipient of a charitable gift annuity or trust.
A simple example of a Bequest might be:
I give and bequeath to Grow Food Northampton, having its principal offices at 39 Munroe Street, Northampton, MA 01060, the sum of $_______ or
All/ __% of the residue of my estate.
For more information of what kind of gift might be best for you, we encourage you consult with your financial, legal and tax advisors.
